RACHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN
This painting describes the Midrash* that says that when the people of Israel went into exile they passed near the grave of our Matriarch Rachel.
The soul of Rachel, our foremother, sees them from above and weeps to God to have mercy on her children.
and the Holy One, blessed be He, answers her:
"Prevent your voice from crying and your eyes from tears, in your merits your children will come back to their land"
You might ask; what merits did Rachel have that were so great ? Rachel was the woman who gave up her own personal success and happiness in life just for her sister, Leah, would not to be embarrassed and ashamed.

IT LOOKS LIKE SHE IS STILL CRYING...
Rachel's tears appear in the center of the painting on the white surface and on her face.
her hands are open in prayer.
I painted Rachel's tears with a different texture and different materials.
so from certain angles it looks like she is still crying.
